National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Kane-South, DeKalb and Kendall Counties
In 1990, a small group of parents from Geneva and St. Charles came together looking for support and information after their children were diagnosed with a mental health condition. NAMI KDK has become a strong affiliate whose mission is to provide mental health education, support, and advocacy for individuals, family members, and communities in Kane-south, DeKalb, and Kendall counties. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Illinois
NAMI Illinois families and members are here to help anyone concerned about mental health and the treatment of mental health disorders. Mental health disorders are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling, and relating. This can result in a substantially diminished capacity for handling, and coping with, the demands of every day life. Mental health disorders can affect persons of any age and occur in any family...they are not caused by bad parenting or evidence of the weakness of character. Mission NAMI Illinois is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with mental health disorders and their families through support, education, and advocacy. Our Goals Advocate at the county, state, and national levels for non-discriminatory access to quality healthcare, housing, education, and employment for people with mental health disorders.
Educate the public about mental health disorders. Work to eliminate the stigma of mental health disorders. Advocate for increased funding for research into the causes and treatment of mental health disorders. Our Vision In our envisioned future, mental health disorders will no longer thwart a person’s fulfillment of his or her potential. With early pinpoint diagnoses, interventions, and targeted medications and services there is no pervasive disability. Ultimately, we envision a day when prevention or a cure is found.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Northfield
NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Illness, is a grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons and their families affected by mental illness through support, education, advocacy, and research. NAMI CCNS is a grass roots organization and an affiliate of the NAMI National organization. Our affiliate was started in the early 1990’s by a group of family members who were all dealing with the challenges of loved ones with mental illness. They offered a Family-to-Family class and that was the beginning of our affiliate, which now serves over 17 communities in our catchment area. We now offer free of charge not only Family-to-Family but also a variety of support groups, webinars, and programs. People who have taken our classes and attended our support groups constantly comment about their positive experiences and how NAMI has helped them put their lives back together again. In 2007 after a successful gala, we were able to open our first office in Northfield and hire an Executive Director and staff. In 2014 we moved our office to the Turning Point building in Skokie, where we serve hundreds of families dealing with mental illness. As an organization, we use a collaborative model, using each other’s strengths to find ways to fulfill our mission every day.

QPR Institute
 |
Our Mission To save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. We believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know. What does QPR mean?- Q
Question - P
Persuade - R
Refer
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying "Yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor. QPR can be learned in our Gatekeeper course in as little as one hour.

Senior Care Volunteer Network McHenry County
 |
Since 1998, our not-for-profit program has served all seniors, age 60 and over, who live in McHenry County or Sun City Huntley. Our mission is to help seniors maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life by remaining in their own homes or the home of a loved one for as long as possible. Volunteers help us achieve our mission by providing services such as transportation to life critical, life-sustaining as well as life-enriching destinations, friendly visits, minor home repairs, yard work, and shopping all at absolutely no charge to the senior. In our last fiscal year, volunteers drove more than 164,000 miles, and dedicated 18,054 volunteer hours to assist more than 1177 local seniors. Our services saved seniors and their families $444,420. When a senior is able to attend necessary medical appointments, our transportation services are life-sustaining. However, our other services help seniors feel less isolated and decrease feelings of anxiety and depression. When they know there is someone there for them, someone who cares, and they know they can still be an integral part of their community, they remain independent longer.
