What is Adult Protective Services?

Adult Protective Services (APS) investigates reports of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and self-neglect of adults 60 or older, and adults 18-59 with disabilities living in the community. APS works to:

  • Assess safety and risk
  • Stop or reduce harm
  • Connect individuals with community resources and supports
  • Promote independence, dignity, and the least restrictive interventions possible

APS services are voluntary and client-centered. The goal is to protect vulnerable adults while respecting their rights and personal choices.
