Illinois CEU Requirements for Social Workers

2023 - 2025 Illinois License Renewal for Social Workers

New Regulation: All LSWs and LCSWs are required to fill out a post test on all computer / online based courses. 

Ethics: At least 3 hours related to the ethical practice of social work.
Cultural Competency: At least 3 hours related to cultural competence in the practice of social work. Note: Effective January 1, 2024, Public Act 103-0531 requires that all licensed professionals must obtain at least 1 hour of continuing education in cultural competency. 
Implicit Bias Awareness: At least 1 hour on implicit bias awareness.
Mandated Reporter Training with Implicit Bias: A mandated reporter training with a section on implicit bias is required for licensure renewal. This education does not have to include a CEU.
Sexual Harassment Prevention Training: A sexual harassment prevention training is required for licensure renewal. This requirement is for everyone employed by an entity in Illinois (not including self-employment). This education does not have to include a CEU. 
Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias: This licensure requires a one-hour (minimum) training on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. All health care professionals with direct access to clients with Alzheimer's Disease or related dementia must complete a minimum of 6 hours of initial training in their first 60 days of employment on the following topics: understanding dementia (hoarding, paranoia, hallucinations, and sundown syndrome). This education does not have to include a CEU.
 
 Elderwerks will require all virtual attendees in our continuing education classes to fill out a post test.
