Center of Concern

assisted living services Center of Concern
Since 1978, the Center of Concern has been a source of hope and inspiration to thousands of clients and volunteers whose lives have been enriched by our programs. We are here to inform, advocate and intervene on behalf of residents struggling with challenges related to aging, homelessness, and accessing resources to remain independent in their homes.

All of our programs share a common purpose: supporting families and strengthening the community. The talents of our experienced staff, trained volunteers, and longstanding community partners band together to provide compassion, experience, and insight to help residents overcome isolation and significant challenges to remain independent. Our services are a lifeline to ensure the well-being of residents struggling to make ends meet on low fixed incomes, lack of affordable housing, and rising costs of medical care.

Please email us or call us directly to learn more about how you might be able to make a difference — in your life and the lives of others in need. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions.

QPR Institute

Our Mission

To save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. We believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know.

What does QPR mean?

  • Q

    Question

  • P

    Persuade

  • R

    Refer

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying "Yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor.

QPR can be learned in our Gatekeeper course in as little as one hour.

Senior Care Volunteer Network McHenry County

assisted living services Senior Care Volunteer Network McHenry County

Since 1998, our not-for-profit program has served all seniors, age 60 and over, who live in McHenry County or Sun City Huntley. Our mission is to help seniors maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life by remaining in their own homes or the home of a loved one for as long as possible.

Volunteers help us achieve our mission by providing services such as transportation to life critical, life-sustaining as well as life-enriching destinations, friendly visits, minor home repairs, yard work, and shopping all at absolutely no charge to the senior.

In our last fiscal year, volunteers drove more than 164,000 miles, and dedicated 18,054 volunteer hours to assist more than 1177 local seniors. Our services saved seniors and their families $444,420.

When a senior is able to attend necessary medical appointments, our transportation services are life-sustaining. However, our other services help seniors feel less isolated and decrease feelings of anxiety and depression. When they know there is someone there for them, someone who cares, and they know they can still be an integral part of their community, they remain independent longer.
